|My present work concerns light, depth and space. Recently I have begun to look at layering paint in ‘Resin II’, 2008, I have moved on from the Optical work adding resin and enamel on top of an optical acrylic painting on canvas this is almost reactionary to the hard-edged paintings of my past. |
This body of work is primarily concerned with the recreation of light through reverberation of the picture plane. My Optical work investigates different possibilities of patterns, push-pull space and relationships between Payne’s Grey and Titanium White. Its roots lie in Greenbergian philosophy of the shape of the canvas, properties of the pigment and the flatness of the picture plane. Taking this further and studying Optical art I have been producing and exhibiting optical paintings with great success since 1998.
