Earthenware sculpture and digital photographic images.

The technological age brings huge advantages. However, as we use electronic devices to work and relax we are increasingly experiencing the world digitally. This overrides our consciousness of our immediate surroundings and increases the human disconnection from our environment and material experience.

We often ignore our body's inherent responses to the natural world we have evolved with, particularly from light, the most powerful synchroniser of our circadian rhythm. Our power to control our environment with artificial sources means it need never be dark.

My work investigates the connections between material, light and environment, exploring objects activated by light. They are sculptures designed to harness all light and create with it. From this collaboration the materially permanent ceramic body can acquire visual transition. With alignment, light can intersect the object and create projection, allowing it to reach out beyond its form. A connection of the material and the immaterial is constructed - the structure provides a material body for light, and the light brings a 'life' to the object, increasing our perception of the constant transition of energy around us.
