Riverbed Stories video capture #3

This photograph, mounted on aluminium, is from Riverbed Stories, a short experimental video from 2015 that documents an area of south east London along two riverbeds - a place of natural beauty polluted by fly-tipping. Many mattresses lie semi-submerged in water or abandoned in the grass along the banks. I was thinking of whom they might have belonged to - of bodies being comforted and falling into sleep. It's poignant seeing these mattresses strewn along the side of the river - the loss of an intimate history. The video is a personal response to this landscape and its connection with human interaction, presence, and loss.
My photographic and video work often refers to place and specifically sites in transition.

I studied art history at Warwick and Communications (Film) at Goldsmith’s. I lived in Vancouver, Canada and was represented by a commercial gallery. I received a visual arts grant from the Canada Council and had work purchased by the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography.

Since returning to London I have exhibited in group exhibitions including the London Art Fair, Royal West of England Academy, where I won the photography prize in 2014, National Open Art at Somerset House and Royal College of Art, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Deptford X, Kinsale Arts Festival, Ireland, and Raven Row, London. I had a solo exhibition, Waiting for You, at House Gallery, London in 2013. My videos have been screened in San Francisco, Moscow, Athens Video Art Festival, Cairo Video Festival, The Hague, International Independent Film Festival PUBLICYSTYKA, Poland, and at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, USA.
