Title: AND A CHERRY ON THE TOP (60 x 60 cm) 23.6 x 23.6 inches

sometimes it's really nice to get a little bit extra!

About my work

A colour, a place, an expression, a feeling, a memory. My paintings are often built in layers of paint and glazes, each layer influenced by a memory or experience. Layers. shape and line feature heavily in my current work.

These represent the real and the unreal, the seen and the unseen, the history of the inner artist, the history of paint, the effect of mankind, and the layers of life itself. I'll sometimes begin a painting with the essence of an idea, but I'll continue the struggle to look inwards and paint from inside, so I'm never quite sure what the end will be like. It's a wonderful freedom.

Artistic influences and people I admire are many. I adore the work of Peter Lanyon, Richard Diebenkorn, Ivon Hitchens, and most of the St Ives group of Artists. There are too many to mention here, but I admire how so many artists way back in history have pushed the boundaries and bravely challenged the 'accepted', Kandinsky, Mondrian, Helen Frankenthaler, Malevich etc.

All my paintings are finished with 2 coats of gloss UV protection varnish.
