Acrylic on canvas 150cms x 100cms
I watched yet another money-raising evening on tv. Feed the starving children. Feed the dying mothers. Send money for schools for hospitals for food. Too many charities concentrate entirely on the tragedy of children in poverty and the women who try to look after them. Only a few charities concentrate on reducing the birth rate. Many sick and starving women produce many more sick and starved children. Most would rather not. This picture is a plea to the world to stop treating only the problem and fund the solution.
The picture depicts women struggling in the darkness of night, of despair, of deprivation, of disease. They want a life, not more children. The pink cloth references the Western pink and fluffy aspirational image. What can we offer put on this bleak table?
