Factory Girls Walking

Graphite on paper: 41 x 54 cm
Considering women, companionship, nostalgia and pretending.
Taken from a found photograph, these women were presented as the glamorous face of factory working, keeping the nation going during the war. The truth may have seemed harsher, but my grandmother loved working in a factory during WW2 - she had had 12 children and loved the camaraderie of the other women. In my work I like to leave parts to the viewer's imagination and in this series, it is the faces.
