'Memory, hither come,
And tune your merry notes;
And, while upon the wind
Your music floats.'
These thoughts expressed by William Blake, concur with ideas that inform my own work. I am preoccupied with vague or fleeting memories. Like a tune that wafts in the wind, a memory flits in and out of the mind. Often triggered by music or a smell, the past briefly touches our present.
I like the process of decay, mainly because it suggests a life lead and an intriguing narrative, but visually I think there is a beauty which transcends perfection. Along with hints at changing seasons my paintings, imply the transience of time. |
