Much of the initial inspiration for my work comes from places I have visited. I often use photographs as a starting point, and as the compositions develop, I combine imagery taken from the photographs with elements drawn from personal experience. I hope to create images that communicate something of what it feels like to be alive.

I am fascinated by the qualities of paint and the exciting possibilities of colour and colour relationships - the potential this has to create connections and reactions. I work with acrylic paint as it dries relatively quickly, allowing me to build up many layers of thinly poured paint, contrasting with directly applied, thicker marks. I wait until the paintings are dry before applying subsequent new marks. This allows me the opportunity to remove or modify painted areas, without affecting the preceding layers. I work with the canvases flat on the floor for much of the time. The paintings take about eight weeks to complete.

I regularly exhibit my paintings and prints, selling to both private and corporate customers. A large part of my practice is engaged with commissioned work, working with art consultancies and galleries, producing work for commercial and private environments.

I have been working professionally as an artist for the past 15 years. I studied for a B.A (Hons) degree in Fine Art (Printmaking) at Brighton University, 1987-90, followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Fine Art (Printmaking) at The Slade School of Fine Art in London, 1990-1992.
