I am a Russian born, Berkshire based multimedia artist and I graduated with an honours degree in Fine Art Practices from PCAD in July 2010.
I have a classical ballet background and I find that, in many ways, fine art is similar to a ballet performance, as in both, one expresses themes and ideas visually.
I try to merge traditional methods of painting with more recent contemporary influences. For example, I am interested in creating a recognizable object that has been abstracted in a way that shows how I feel about it, but painted in a figurative way.
In some aspects my paintings are a metaphorical engagement with the world. When you see the object painted, it is meant to be read as a symbol of something abstract and not as the object itself. Also, I attempt to create a painting that can be read on many different levels. I enjoy working with double meanings, for example, the merging of several real objects so that the audience may find the finished painting providing many facets and thought provoking.
My subject matter is generally related to the natural world as I find great inspiration in the diversity of colours, textures and the form of flowers and plants. Flowers have a long symbolic history, dark mystique powers and sexual charm and I find this subject very interesting to investigate. |
