Christine Allman

Christine Allman is a proffesional artist, living and working in Norwich and studied Fine Art to MA at Norwich School of Art and Design (now Norwich University College of Arts) between 1995-2002.

The artist, a strong believer in the expressive and emotional potential of paint as a medium, uses the traditional process of oil on canvas, employing many layers of semi-transparent glazes to make her paintings.

Using photography, draped fabric and staged lighting, and the artist creates still life tableaux that poignantly intimates the presence or absence of the human body. Transferring this image to canvas in a complex layering of glazes, the painted drapery and folds suggest an ambiguous materiality that the artist employs to express her concerns. The bodiless forms and folds of the discarded and degraded, replete with thoughts in obmutescence, are held in focus. The image offers the viewer a space in which to contemplate lives extinguished and some of the more disturbing aspects of human behaviour and its consequences.
