Are you working in isolation? Are you working in isolation?     (Back to list)

I'm trying to set up a new working artist's group in Dorset. To gain funding I'm trying to answer the questions 'would motivation / creativity be increased by having your studio next to others' and 'would sharing costs make your business more viable'? To us the obvious answer is yes. If you agree can you please leave a message here. Any other comments would be very welcome. THANK YOU

I am a member of North Devon Arts and have been chair for the last four years.
We set the group up in 1998 to serve rurally isolated artists in North Devon. Any contact and networking between artists is beneficial to all parties; working alongside others can inspire and help in the creation of new work and pass on different ways of working and promoting the individual's work.
As a group we don't have our own premises, but the committee have looked at various workshop and studio spaces in the West Country, with a view to eventually taking a space for our members. Some we visited are of course better than others, but in the main sharing costs and having an overall shared management structure, certainly helps artists who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford the market rate for a space/studio/workshop. I do hope this helps with your funding bid - good luck with it.
